After my adventure to the Emerald Downs over a year ago I finally got back out to the paddock albeit a different one. Golden Gate Fields was just as welcoming of cameras in policy but the track layout was not not as user friendly. The apron doesn't extend all the way to the corner of the track so I couldn't get any good head-on shots as the horses came around the bend. The closest point to the bend (I could have used the 500mm instead of 200mm) was also about a foot lower than the track itself making it impossible to keep the rail out of frame.
I think I missed a few shots throughout the day because I chose to shot RAW all day. I know this sounds contradictory to many because they save an exposure because it was RAW but I can't keep the "motor drive" running as long or as fast compared to shooting jpeg. And for the record everything on flickr was converted using camera settings so I didn't gain a thing; this may save me $300 on Light Room 2.

Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area
Certainly is...
I was really happy to have found this place on my drive. I would love to have the opportunity to try a few more things with this shot; high tide, sunset, I like where the light house is in relation to the right edge but a wider angle to include more rocks on the left would be nice. I might move the frame down for a little more foreground and a little less sky as well. Tough not to second guess yourself two weeks later when you can't remember just how unsightly that railing was...
I like it enough to be my new desktop at work anyway.

Project 365
I've decided to retire from project 365. I've been traveling for work since my last post and haven't taken any pictures. The fact that I'll be moving in a month doesn't help either. It's been an interesting experience that I may undertake again someday but I'm looking forward to my camera being a weekend warrior again. I've deleted the collection and moved all of the pictures into a single set for the 108 days I completed. I do plan to continue this photo blog but obviously with much less frequency.
